U-Tsang Commitee Endorses Tethong as the next Tibetan Prime Minister in exile

Dolma Tsering, President of Dharamsala based U-Tsang Committee endorsed Mr. Tenzin Namgyal Tethong, 62, as the commitee's main candidate for the 2011 Prime Minister of Tibetan Government in Exile (Kalon Tripa) election.

Tethong, who has not yet publicly announced whether he will be contesting for the leadership position, said that he is thankful for the association’s support and trust in nominating him for the Kalon Tripa but added that he would respond to the support calls from the Tibetan people after the primary election in October this year.

Mr. Tethong served as a former Representative of H.H. the Dalai Lama in New York and Washington, D.C., and former Chairman of the Kashag, the Tibetan Cabinet. Many regard him as a serious and popular candidate to the office of Kalon Tripa.

Tibetans in exile will vote for the next Kalon Tripa next year who will stay at the office for five years. Many see the term as a crucial period in the Tibetan struggle.
