Tibetans in Switzerland Hold Solidarity Rally for Kirti Monks

500 Tibetans in Zurich took part in a solidarity rally and held a prayer service for Kirti monks in the Tibetan area of Ngaba, Sichuan on Tuesday evening.

Cina has worsened crackdown in the Tibetan area of Ngaba, Sichuan, following the self immolation and death of a young monk called Phuntsog on March 16.The Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein has sent appeal letters to the United Nations Human Rights Commisioner, Chinese Ambassador in Switzerland and the Swiss government, urging them to pressure China to exercise restraint in Ngaba.

Lobsang Shitsetsang, the vice-president of the Tibetan community of Switzerland, said the Tibetans in Switzerland are saddened by situation in Kirti monastery and Ngaba.

“We condemn the killing of two elderly Tibetans camped near the monastery, and the forceful eviction of around 300 monks from the monastery,” he said.
