The 150 mile “March for Tibet’s Independence” that began July 4 at Independence Hall in Philadelphia will conclude Tuesday at the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC. The walkers marched through Pennsylvania, Delaware, and reached Baltimore Sunday.
Although dangerous heat wave warnings were issued for the Philadelphia region last week as temperature rose to 100 degree, the walkers marched from 8:30 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon every day, according to Wangchuk Dorjee, one of the walkers.
Wangchuk, who sees peaceful marches as one of most effective means of non-violent struggle, said they interacted with many people on the Tibet issue and were able to create awareness on Tibet along the way.
President of ITIM Larry Gerstein said ITIM organized the march because Tibet is still under the Chinese occupation and that they will continue to organize such actions until Tibet is free.
This is the 15th major ‘March’ or ‘Bicycle Ride’ for Tibet’s independence organized by the International Tibet Independence Movement (ITIM) since 1995.
