India Extends Residential Permit Renewal Period for Tibetan Refugees

Leader of the exile Tibetan community Lobsang Sangay announced today that India's Home Ministry has agreed to extend the residential permit renewal period for Tibetans born in India and Tibetan refugees who have lived in India for more than 20 years. Instead of yearly or bi-yearly renewal of their Indian residency permit called the registration certificate (RC), those eligible can now renew their RCs every five years.

“Indian Government in New Delhi has accepted our request to renew our RCs after every five years,” Sangay told during the 6th annual meeting of Tibetan Chamber of Commerce held in Dharamsala.
