Amnesty International, an organization that works towards protecting human rights globally, condemned the Chinese police firing on peaceful Tibetan protesters in Driru county in the Tibet Autonomous Prefecture on Sunday, October 6, 2013, which left over 60 Tibetans injured.
“It is outrageous for the police to start firing on a peaceful gathering. This latest incident shows that the Chinese authorities have done nothing to rein in excessive use of force by their security forces or to increase respect for Tibetans’ right to freedom of peaceful assembly,” Corinna-Barbara Francis of Amnesty International’s China Researcher said in a statement issued on October 9, 2013.
Meanwhile, according to the reports from inside Tibet, checkpoints in Lhasa, the administrative capital of Tibet, has increased security implemented by the Chinese forces. Reports also mention that the Chinese officials are harassing Tibetans from Driru and two adjacent counties in Ngachu Prefectures.
