Dalai Lama Urges Action on Climate Change བོད་སྐད།

The Dalai Lama is urging world leaders to make finding a solution to climate change their number one priority.

Speaking in Sydney, Australia, the Tibetan spiritual leader said politicians must take serious action and prioritize climate change ahead of all national issues.

The Dalai Lama made the remarks Monday as world leaders prepare to meet next week in Copenhagen for the United Nations conference on climate change.

The Tibetan spiritual leader said he cannot predict the outcome of the summit, but he said it is encouraging that the conference is being held.

The Dalai Lama is in Australia for a series of lectures on universal responsibility and the environment.

His trip comes as Australia's government is locked in a bitter debate over the fate of a contentious bill aimed at curbing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Dalai Lama will travel to the Australian cities of Hobart and Melbourne, as well as Auckland, New Zealand.

His visit to Australia coincides with the 20th anniversary of him being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to peacefully resolve the issue of Chinese-ruled Tibet.
