India, China, Russia Pledge Unity on Global Stability

India, China and Russia are pledging to work together to ensure global peace and stability.

The countries' foreign ministers met Tuesday in the Indian city of Bangalore.

The officials say they are forging a common approach to global issues such as the financial crisis, climate change and security.

In a joint statement, they said the pace of development in their countries has improved despite the financial crisis.

Each country is home to a large emerging economy. Together, they comprise 20 percent of the total global land mass and represent nearly 40 percent of the global population.

The ministers said their countries -- among the world's top polluters -- are taking the threat of global warming seriously. They said they will work for a successful outcome to the U.N. climate conference in Copenhagen in December.

The Chinese and Indian foreign ministers also held a separate meeting to try to resolve problems that have emerged between their countries.

The Indian foreign minister said he was "satisfied" with the talks, which he said were helping build "trust and understanding" between the two nations.

Beijing has protested an Indian state's plans to host the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.

China claims large parts of that state, Arunachal Pradesh, which lies at the heart of a border dispute between the two countries.
