Kalon Tripa Addresses SAARC Meeting བོད་སྐད།

Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche gave keynote address of the International Conference on “Buddhism as a Peace-Maker in Post-Modern SAARC” at India International Centre, New Delhi on Wedneday. The two day conference is organized by Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature which was formed in 1987.

Kalon Tripa while giving the keynote address said that the principle of ‘Might is Right” still rules the world. “Every where might is controlling not only the humanity but the entire universe. Justice, truth are only a lip service.” and continued, in this modern era the industrialization created ‘comparison and competition’ to exploit the negative emotions of the consumers. Thus “Competition means inbuilt violence. Whatever compete, the end is violence.” added Samdhong Rinpoche

He also spoke on the relevance of Buddhism as a peace-maker and said that according to Buddhist philosophy the sustainable peace will achieve only through attainment of Nirvana. “One of the basic fundamentals of Buddhism is that Nirvana only is the Peace ”

A book authored by Prof. KTS Sarao titled “Pilgrimage to Mansarovar” was also released during the opening ceremony of the two day conference. The author lamented the ecological destruction of Western Tibet while introducing his book and said, “Western Tibet, where I have been seven times has been almost destroyed by the Chinese.”
