Pakistan and China Sign Multiple Deals བོད་སྐད།

Pakistan and China signed at least 10 deals Wednesday on topics ranging from economic cooperation to agriculture, trade and mining.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Chinese President Hu Jintao oversaw the signings after they held talks in Beijing Wednesday.

Mr. Zardari is seeking economic agreements and assistance in an effort to alleviate financial difficulties in his nation. In the past, China has funded major projects in Pakistan.

Pakistan's president arrived in China on Tuesday for a four-day visit that is also expected to focus on nuclear energy cooperation.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman (Qin Gang) said Tuesday that China is ready to continue such cooperation with Pakistan. But he did not confirm that Mr. Hu and Premier Wen Jiabao will discuss a possible nuclear power deal with Mr. Zardari.

Earlier this week, Mr. Zardari told the official Chinese news agency, Xinhua, that the two countries have cultural and friendly ties, but those links are not properly depicted by their economic relationship.

This is Mr. Zardari's first state visit since he assumed office in September.

Officials are also expected to discuss efforts to secure the release of two Chinese engineers who were kidnapped six weeks ago by Taliban-linked militants in northwest Pakistan.
