Rights Group: Tibetan TV Journalist Detained བོད་སྐད།

Reporters Without Borders has expressed deep concern about a Tibetan television journalist reported to have been arrested by Chinese authorities last week.

The Paris-based rights group Thursday released a statement calling on China to explain why Washu Rangjong was detained September 11th. Police are reported to have arrested him at his home in Serthar county, eastern Tibet.

The group says Washu Rangjong's family has not been told why he was arrested.

In April, Chinese authorities detained Jamyang Kyi, a popular Tibetan television announcer and singer in the northwestern city of Xining. Observers said Jamyang Kyi, who is also well-known for blogging on women's issues, avoided sensitive themes and language in her music.
