Nepalese Government to Deport Illegal Tibetans བོད་སྐད།

Nepalese officials say the government will begin deporting Tibetan exiles living illegally in the country.

Home Ministry spokesman Modraj Dottel Thursday said the government has begun investigating the immigration status of those involved in anti-China protests. Dottel says Nepal does not want to spoil friendly relations with China.

Police in the capital, Kathmandu, say they are currently checking the legal status of more than 100 Tibetan exiles who have been recently detained for protesting China's rule over their homeland.

Tibetan exiles in both Nepal and India have been staging near-daily demonstrations since March, when deadly clashes broke out between protesters and Chinese authorities in Tibet.

Nepal is home to about 20-thousand Tibetans who fled their homeland after a failed uprising against Chinese rule in 1959. The country recognizes Tibet as part of China.
