China Blocks Tibetan Writers' Blog

The famous Tibetan writer Woeser says the Chinese government has ordered her two blogs on the Tibetan Cultural Network and its Beijing website be shutdown.

Woeser told VOA that on July 6 of this year—the Dalai Lama's 71st birthday—she expressed her congratulations to the Dalai Lama on his birthday. At the same time, many other Tibetans also expressed reverence for the Dalai Lama. Woeser believes this is one of the main reasons for the dissatisfaction of the Chinese authorities. Woeser also says that she is a Buddhist, reveres the Dalai Lama, and sees the Dalai Lama as a great Tibetan.

She is concerned with the current status of Tibet, as well as its history and culture, and has discussed a number of controversial Tibetan issues online, including AIDS in Tibet, the impact of the new Tibet railway on Tibetan culture, and the 40th anniversary of Tibet's Cultural Revolution.
