Talk to VOA: The ordination of Buddhist nuns

Whether to re-establish the order of Bhikhuni, or Buddhist nuns, is a subject of debate throughout the Buddhist world. Last week in Dharamsala, major Buddhist scholars gathered with the Dalai Lama to discuss this controversial theological issue. This week's Tibetan TV call-in show will host scholar Ven. Tashi Tsering and Bhikshuni Jampa Tsedroen to discuss the issue. Bhikshuni Jampa Tsedroen has been an organizer in the ongoing debate on whether to re-establish order of Bhikhuni. The discussion will consider the extent to which the traditional Buddhist order can address challenges of modernity, such as gender equality.
