Indian Maoists Kill 13 Captives

Indian police say they have found the bodies of 13 people kidnapped by Maoist rebels this past week in a forest in central India.

The guerrillas had abducted more than 50 people from Dandewada district on Tuesday. Police said Saturday the 13 bodies were found with their throats slit near the relief camp where they had been kidnapped.

On Friday, police in Chhattisgarh found the bodies of two other men who were among the seized group.

Police killed 11 rebels in a shootout Friday in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.

Authorities in India say the rebels, who say they are fighting for the rights of neglected tribes and landless farmers, regularly kidnap people as a terror tactic.
