Thousands of Tibetans turned up at the voting booths to cast their vote for Sikyong (Prime Minister) and Chithue (Member of Parliament) Election 2016 of the Dharamsala based Central Tibetan Administration.

The Tibetan Settlement Officer and Regional Election Commissioner, along with his team set up 10 election booths including one at Tsuklagkhang, the main temple and Gangchen Kyishong, the building area of Exile Tibetan Administration.

With the preliminary election taking place in more than 90 places around the world simultaneously, the election commissioner had prepared special services to the Tibetans residing in Nepal and Bhutan to avoid problems of restriction and losing ballot boxes, an incident which occured in the 2011 election.

Voters have shared their views on the election and their hopes for their elected leader with VOA's Tibetan Service.
