Deoguling Mundgod FC bags the Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial (GCM) Gold Cup after a 2-1 win facing last year's champion Pokhara Tashiling at the Upper TCV football ground in Dharamsala, Northern India.

GCM is an annual soccer tournament dedicated to the Dalai Lama's late mother Diki Tsering. Organized by the Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA), it is considered one of the biggest sporting event within the diaspora Tibetan community with participants from over 28 teams including New York, Europe, Toronto, and different settlement areas within India.

Tsering Dhondup from Mundgod, the winning team tells VOA that the hard work and effort his team has put forward over the last three months with vigorous exercises has lead to their victory this year.

Lobsang Sangay, head of the Tibetan Administration in exile, congratulated all 28 participating teams and encouraged Tibetans living in the settlement areas to increase their engagement in sports to improve health and unity among Tibetan people.

Lobsang Norbu, PTI of TCV school in Dharamsala, shared his views with VOA on this year's game format, and constructive ways to improve it in the coming years.

Doeguling Mundgod will be the host of the next GCM tournament.
