Sarah College Introduces Masters Degree in Tibetan History and Literature


The College for Higher Tibetan Studies at Sarah, near Dharamshala, northern India announced the introduction of its master degree (Tsugla Rabjampa) in Tibetan History and Tibetan Literature during its 16th anniversary function on August 14, 2014.

The ceremony was attended by Lobsang Sangay, head of the Tibetan Administration in Exile; Topgyal Tsering, Secretary of Department of Education; Tenzin Lungtok Additional Secretary of Department of Religion and Culture, and over 500 students and staff of the College and Institute of Buddhist Dialects.

Geshe Jamphel Dhakpa, Principal of the college shared their objectives for introducing its Masters Degree, and said that the syllabus for degree including its introduction was consulted with other universities and Tibetan scholars before being approved by the Department of Education after rounds of discussions among the special committees set up for it.

The first batch of the Master's Program has 6 students each. Geshe Dhakpa further noted that the college plans to introduce M.Phil and PhD courses in the near future.

Losang Sangay presented certificates to the graduates from both IBD and CHTS, and urged them to serve the Tibetan community.

Sarah College currently has 252 students from different nationalities taking part in its various programs.
